About the event

Monkey experimenter Elisabeth Murray will be giving a talk at Vanderbilt University. Please join Nashville Animal Advocacy and PETA as we protest Murray for her painful, invasive, and worthless experiments on monkeys.

Here are the details:

WHEN: Wednesday, March 22th from 3:15pm–5pm

WHERE: Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, Medical Research Building III (MRB3), 465 21st Ave S, Nashville, TN 37232 (please see this map: https://goo.gl/maps/3Uomsnwi7N9iVWWCA)

CONTACT: Tricia Lebkuecher at TriciaL@peta.org

Murray, a National Institutes of Health (NIH) experimenter, has spent her career tormenting hundreds of monkeys in heartless experiments in which she immobilizes the monkey's head in a vise-like device, carves out a section of the skull, and injects toxins into the brain to cause permanent and traumatic brain damage. She places the frightened and brain-damaged monkeys in tiny metal cages inside darkened boxes and then lifts a guillotine-like door to reveal rubber snakes and spiders that sometimes move or jump so she can film the monkeys' terrified responses.

Murray's experiments are catastrophically flawed. Humans with neuropsychiatric illnesses that cause difficulty with emotional regulation and behavioral flexibility do not have lesions in their brains. Rather, they display subtle anatomical or functional abnormalities in the brain or alterations in neurotransmitter functioning. Lesion studies cannot simulate the type of brain dysfunction seen in human neuropsychiatric populations. Murray’s lab must be shut down permanently!

For more information and ways to take action, please see: https://investigations.peta.org/nih-monkey-torture/

All materials (such as posters and leaflets) will be provided.

Please refrain from bringing dogs as there may not be shade or a safe place for them to lie down during the protest. Note that reserved parking will not be available, and please be prepared for the weather. Outreach events are a fun and effective way to help animals as well as meet local advocates, so be sure to invite others!
